Marine Resistivity Imaging

Resistivity is a unique physical property of matter, the capability of materials to resist to a current flow. This property can vary of several order of magnitude depending on the materials. Marine Resistivity Imaging is therefore an advantageous technique to determine the geological structures of the marine substratum.

Resistivity imaging is largely used for land exploration, but hardly in the marine environment. MAPPEM Geophysics makes Marine Resistivity imaging acessible in all coastal area,  whatever the water depth, local bathymetry or seafloor materials, thanks to its unique flying towed array, the MAPPEM system.

The MAPPEM system measures with great accuracy the resistivity in the marine environment, injecting strong currents for good signal/noise ratio and precisely measuring the electric potentials created.

Marine Resistivity imaging is particularly interesting in complement to other techniques to help geological interpretation, but of primary interest when other techniques are not sufficient or blind :

The system geometry is adapted depending on your targets.

Not only geological structure can be imaged, buried objects are very good candidate such as pipes, cable or unexploded ordnance (UXO). Indeed, they usually show some resistivity contrasts with the surroundings, therefore can be localized with our dedicated system.

MAPPEM Geophysics can design the survey according to your need, perform the survey with well trained technicians and engineers, and modelize and analyse your data.
