New innovation : Fastinv

February 2022

Mappem Geophysics has developed a new fast inversion algorithm, FastInv, to provide near-simultaneous resistivity models to improve and guide electromagnetic acquisition campaigns.

Our last measurement campaign in the Philippines allowed us to apply and validate the algorithm. At the end of the day, our customers will now be able to obtain the first recorded results.

FastInv is a highly reliable code compared to conventional 2D inversion software and is also easy to adapt. We can add geological or seismic information known a priori (seismic horizons, etc.) in order to further improve the resistivity models obtained.

Back to Mayotte

February 2022

BRGM is conducting a project to study geothermal resources in Mayotte. In this context, Mappem Geophysics carried out electromagnetic measurements in July 2021 using the STATEM system.

The objective of the campaign is to specify the geothermal resources around Mayotte. Indeed, the study of their electromagnetic signature will enable them to be better located and quantified.

We thus deployed three STATEM stations. Divers positioned them successively on nine measurement sites located to the west of Petite Terre, in the lagoon. Each of these stations was able to record the electromagnetic fields for 48 hours before being deployed on a new measurement site. Deployment depths ranged from 5 m to 25 m below the water surface.

Mappem Geophysics was in charge of deploying the STATEM stations, while IMAGIR will process the recorded electromagnetic data.

The campaign in July 2021 follows the first measurements recorded with STATEM stations in 2019. Thus, the nine sites surveyed in 2021 in the west of Petite Terre are added to the two sites already surveyed in 2019.

The Manila campaign

February 2022

Mappem Geophysics has just completed a campaign in Manila Bay, Philippines. The aim was to image the resistivity of the seabed in order to locate areas of sand. This campaign took place at the beginning of July 2021 as part of a dredging project managed by the Dutch company Boskalis.

We broke our record for survey length. We recorded almost 380 km of data with our MAPPEM imaging system!

Two New ENGINEERS

February 2022

Mappem Geophysics is growing and is enriched by two new recruits, young doctors in marine geophysics!

Since March 1st 2021, Florent Colin has joined our team as a geophysical data processing engineer. Florent holds an engineering degree from the Ecole et Observatoire des Sciences de la Terre (EOST). He then completed a thesis at Ifremer in the field of seismic reflection in the marine environment. At Mappem Geophysics, he is an expert geophysicist in electromagnetic data processing. He also carries out electromagnetic measurement campaigns around the world for various projects.

On 1 June 2021, Judith Dusart also joined the Mappem Geophysics team. Judith holds a degree in Hydrographic Engineering from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées de Bretagne (ENSTA Bretagne). She also obtained a master’s degree in marine geophysics from the Université Bretagne Occidentale (UBO). She completed her studies with a thesis on the joint use of electromagnetics, multi-track marine seismic and geotechnics. At Mappem Geophysics, she is involved in R&D, project management and business development.
